Derby County’s Andre Wisdom was hospitalised on Sunday after being stabbed and robbed while visiting a relative.

The Sun reports that the 27 year old was stabbed as he got out of his car in Toxteth, Merseyside.

Wisdom is thankfully now in a stable condition as he recovers from his injuries.

Derby County confirmed: ‘Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery. He sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital.’

The former Liverpool player’s sister said yesterday: ‘He’s been stabbed and is in hospital.

‘He’s stable and my other brother is on his way there. It’s crazy. I can’t believe it.’

A source told the Sun: ‘It’s awful news. He must have been on a high after his team played so well.

‘To then have something like this happen is just tragic. It was totally unprovoked.

‘It’s impossible to imagine what his family must be going through.

‘All his fans wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he’ll be back on the pitch again soon.’

Wisdom signed permanently for Derby in 2017 after previously spending a loan spell with the Rams over the 2013-14 season from Liverpool.

He has also appeared on loan for West Brom, Norwich and Red Bull Salzburg, while also making appearances at youth level for England from Under-16s to Under-21.

Derby boss Phillip Cocu was full of praise for Wisdom when he handed him the captain’s armband for the first time in March.

‘For Andre, it was the first time being captain [against Blackburn] and I think he has developed himself in a very positive way through the season,’ said the Dutch manager.

‘He sees the game well, leads the other players and always has contact with team-mates and the back four. He missed the start of the season because of injury and had to be patient.

‘He understands how we want to play, the intensity we train and play at and he has become an important player for the team.’
