Joe Cole believes Trent Alexander-Arnold has the required skillset to be deployed in midfield for Liverpool and possibly even England.

The 21-year-old has had yet another outstanding season for the Reds, with his three goals and 12 assists helping fire Jurgen Klopp’s side to the Premier League title.

Alexander-Arnold has earned plaudits for his excellent deliveries from full-back and with seven league games still to play this campaign, ex-Chelsea winger Cole suggests now is a good time to test the England international out in midfield.

‘Trent has won everything in the game he can win, he is 21 and I bet he doesn’t even think about that,’ Cole told BT Sport.

‘He goes onto the pitch and is free. If I was Jurgen Klopp now I would use this opportunity to have a look at him in the midfield.

‘He is one of the best passers in the country anywhere. I would maybe even try him in the midfield for England.

‘That range of passing, the set-pieces, he is just a fantastic talent and he is going to be having the time of his life.’

Liverpool could still beat Manchester City’s record tally of 100 points in the 2017-18 season, if they amass 15 more points from their remaining seven games.

However, Jurgen Klopp feels it will be a tough ask given the short turnaround between matches.

‘Getting these types of points tallies sounds pretty nice to me but I’m not sure it’s possible because six or seven of the remaining games we play in a very short period of time,’ Klopp said.

‘Every three days we will need to make a lot of changes, we need to be lucky and make sure nobody gets injured. We need to be lucky there.

‘If a player gets injured he cannot play the next five as well so that makes it really tricky for all of us.’
