Mohamed Salah revealed he is aiming to win his third Golden Boot in a row after Liverpool clinched the Premier League title.
Liverpool are league champions for the first time in 30 years and Salah is targeting a prolific end to the season having already scored 17 times, the same number as Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Salah has seven more games to bypass current top scorer Jamie Vardy (19) and the Egyptian superstar is confident he can make up the ground.
‘Winning the Premier League is amazing for the club and the city. I’ve now reached my biggest goal, the one I set for myself since I signed for Liverpool,’ Salah told beIN Sports.
‘When I set my mind on something I want to achieve, I always do. If I’m convinced that I can achieve something, thank God I always do.
‘The first question that I was asked since joining Liverpool was that if we were able to win the league and Champions League. That’s why it feels great being able to win something I pledged to win.
‘Of course I want to win the Golden Boot for the third time in a row, let’s see what happens.
Current leader: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – 19 goals
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 17 goals
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) – 17 goals
Sergio Aguero (Man City) – 16 goals
Danny Ings (Southampton) – 16 goals
‘I’m focusing on the games and trying to make the most out of my opportunities. I’m sometimes unlucky but I never give up.’
After collecting the accolade in his debut season with Liverpool, Salah had to share the 2018/19 Golden Boot with his team-mate Sadio Mane and Aubameyang.
Mane is still within a shout with 15 goals so far and Liverpool are set to take on Manchester City in their next game on Thursday.
