Liverpool moved ever closer to their first Premier League title on Sunday night with a tedious 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park which put them 23 points clear at the top of the table.
Manchester City are their closest rivals and play their game in hand on Monday night against Burnley as they look to keep the title ‘race’ alive as long as possible.
Barring a miracle, Liverpool will be crowned champions this season, but it is more a question of when rather than if.
There are numerous permutations, clearly depending on how Liverpool and City get on in their upcoming games, but here are the possible dates for the Reds being crowned champions.
If Man City fail to beat Burnley at home on Monday night then Liverpool will be champions if they beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday at Anfield.
Man City can keep the race alive by beating Burnley, but if the Reds beat Palace and then City don’t beat Chelsea on Thursday, Liverpool will be champions without even playing.
Manchester City welcome Liverpool to the Etihad on the Thursday evening and the Reds can wrap up the title there with a draw, if they have beaten Crystal Palace the previous week.
A draw with Palace would mean the Reds need to beat City to clinch the title at the Etihad.
If Liverpool lose to City then the title race drags on still further.
Liverpool host Aston Villa at 4.30pm on the Sunday and will surely have wrapped up the Premier League title by the end of this game, if they hadn’t already.
Regardless of what Manchester City do, Liverpool need six more points to guarantee the trophy, so by the time they have played Palace, City and Villa, they will likely have amassed them.
If Villa manage to spoil the party then the next chance for the Reds then their next chance will be away to Brighton. By this point, City will have also had to beat Southampton on 5 July and host Newcastle on the Wednesday night.
The Reds’ remaining fixtures after this see them host Burnley, go to Arsenal, play Chelsea at Anfield and then finish the season at Newcastle.
Things will have had to go quite badly wrong for them to see the title clinched in any of those contests.
